Course CodeNameCourse Description
HCA5012 Heath Care Financial Management This course presents an

in-depth review of the budget formulation process specific to health care delivery systems. It explores various funding sources and payment methods. Unless you are part of a military organization or a federal government agency, your work experience as an administrator/manager will most often be limited in terms of direct budget responsibility to working with a specialist with a full range of technical competencies. This usually means that the finance section is directed or managed by a CPA or fiscal specialist. Your job as a manager is to develop a competent understanding of the budget process and of the system of financial management utilized by your organization. As a manager, you will be required to work with the budget office to set-up a resource allocation plan for your department or facility. When problems arise, you should have enough information to sort out the problems in the system. Military and government agencies often rotate all managers through all departments as part of their normal duties. In addition, the managers often serve as a project manager or leader. In these cases, you will usually be required to develop a deeper level of understanding of financial management. In today’s health care environment, the ability to successfully manage the financial portion of your operation is critical since the margins are very narrow. Whether you have a desire to be a finance manager or not, a working knowledge of finance is an absolute must. Remember, as a manager your vision of the future will cost your organization something in terms of resources.

HCA5014 Health Care Policy Analysis and Development This course

provides the Learner with an overview of the factors which govern and impact the development of health care policy in America. Policies that help shape the organizational structure of Health care and its impact on other healthcare systems abroad.

HCA5015 Health Care Administration Principles and Practices The

course focuses on development of the skills necessary to administer a modern complex multi-faceted health care delivery system. The course will cover management theory and models, motivational theory, goal setting, organizational theory, and development of an effective management approach to resolve problems associated with administering a health care delivery system.

HCA5017 Total Quality Management in Health Care This course

is designed to provide Learners with a comprehensive study of total quality management and its philosophy of continuous quality improvement in all business and clinical functions, including problem-solving and patient satisfaction.

HCA5019 Managed Health Care Systems The organization of

health care has changed dramatically in the U.S. during the last two decades, beginning in the 1980’s. Nowhere is this change more evident than in the explosive growth of ADS (Alternative Delivery systems), also called managed care systems, typified by the HMOs and PPOs or new approaches to reimbursement and incentive systems. Alternative delivery systems, such as HMOs (Health Maintenance Organizations) and PPOs (Preferred Provider Maintenance Organizations) are profoundly altering traditional mechanisms of paying physicians and hospitals. This shifts the focus of financial risk from purchasers to providers of care, and can significantly reduce hospital utilization rates. The purpose of this course is to prepare students to assume roles in the management dimensions of HMO/PPOs in the private-for-profit/not-for-profit and publicly sponsored HMOs.

HCA6010 Health Care Administration Research Project The Learner

will conduct a research study of a topic within the academic discipline of Health Care Administration, and document the results in a formal project report. The Learner will demonstrate the ability to conduct an investigation on a work place problem, identify an area for intervention, critique, justify, recommend a strategic plan, organizational objectives, regulations, ethics, and threats and opportunities that can be used to make health care more efficient.
